“Enough! No More Fifth Rainy Season in Camps” — IDPs Hold Peaceful Protest in Mekelle

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Western Tigray launches a peaceful demonstration in Mekelle today June 18, 2025, under the slogan “Enough! No More Fifth Rainy Season in Camps.”

Organized byTsilal Civil Society of Western Tigray, the protest draws participants from across Mekelle and surrounding areas, calling for the immediate, unconditional, and safe return of IDPs currently residing in formal and informal camps within and outside Tigray.

Demonstrators chanted messages such as:

“We will not endure a fifth rainy season in camps!”

“Return is a right, not a matter of negotiation!”

“The suffering of Tigrayans must end!”

“The territorial integrity of Tigray must be respected!”


The demonstration also aimes to pressure the federal government, the international community, and Pretoria Agreement stakeholders to act swiftly.

Scheduled to run from June 18 to 20, the protest is part of a broader campaign that will extend to Geneva, Switzerland, targeting the UN headquarters to demand global attention and action.
