Forest Fire Escalates in Atsbi and Berahle Districts, Authorities Urge Urgent Aerial Response

Tigray Agriculture Bureau and the Disaster Risk Management Commission of the Interim Administration of the Tigray Regional State has announced that a rapidly spreading forest fire has broken out in the Atsbi District of Eastern Tigray and Berahle District of the neighboring Afar Region, causing significant damage to forested areas on June 25, 2025.

The fire, first reported in the Qal’amin vicinity near the Hayelibuhe localities, has been intensified by strong winds and has now advanced toward the Senti Bera area, surpassing the containment capacity of local communities.

Given the inaccessible terrain and the escalating threat, the Disaster Risk Management Commission has officially appealed to the Ethiopian National Disaster Risk Management Commission (ENDRMC) and other relevant federal ministries for immediate aerial firefighting support, emphasizing that ground-based intervention is unfeasible due to the area’s rugged geography.
