Lord Collins of Highbury Arrives in Mekelle, Welcomed by President Getachew

Mekelle, October 10, 2024 – The United Kingdom’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury, arrived in Mekelle today as part of his official visit to Ethiopia. He was accompanied by the UK Ambassador to Ethiopia, Darren Welch. Upon arrival at Mekelle Alula Abanega airport, they were received by President Getachew Reda, along with other regional authorities.

During their time in Tigray, Lord Collins and Ambassador Welch are scheduled to visit various key sites, including the 70 Care IDPs Camp, Kasech Nutrition Centers, a local textile factory, and a combatant camp. These visits aim to assess ongoing humanitarian efforts, support recovery programs, and explore opportunities for further UK-Ethiopia cooperation in the region.

David Igulu, Chief of Field Office for UNICEF, and Elizabeth Omoke, Emergency Manager for UNICEF also received the delegation.

Their discussions with President Getachew are expected to cover various areas of interest mainly Pretoria Agreement, including development cooperation, peace, and regional
