Mekelle, June 11, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) – Internally displaced persons (IDPs) sheltering in Mekelle camps are staging a peaceful rally in Mekelle, calling for the immediate withdrawal of invading forces from Tigray’s constitutionally recognized borders and demanding for their return home.
The demonstration began at Mekelle Martyrs’ Museum and is currently progressing toward the Office of the President of the Tigray Interim Administration. The streets of Mekelle are filled with chants and banners expressing mounting frustration over years of displacement and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
Marchers are carrying signs and chanting slogans such as “No fifth rainy season in tents,” “We are dying while we have lands to farm,” “To sustain our life, we must return home,” and “Implement the Pretoria Agreement now.”

The participation of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups has added urgency to the demands. Many are moving with assistance, visibly worn by years of displacement, yet determined to make their voices heard.

Demonstrators highlight the dire conditions in camps including lack of food, shelter, and medical care and urging both the Tigray Interim Administration and the federal government to take concrete steps toward restoring the livelihoods of the displaced. Demonstrators also appealed to international actors involved in the Pretoria Agreement to ensure its full implementation and uphold commitments made to protect civilians and guarantee their safe return.

As the rainy season approaches, the pressure mounts for a durable solution-one that ensures IDPs can return home.
