Salsay Weyane Tigray, an opposition party operating in Tigray, issues a press release condemning the federal government’s actions regarding the prolonged misery of the displaced people from Western and other parts of Tigray, labeling its conduct as a “deliberate negligence” that intensifies the suffering of displaced communities.
In the press statement, the party criticizes the federal government for neglecting its constitutional obligations, setting preconditions for the return of IDPs, and failing to restore Tigray’s territorial integrity. It also accused federal authorities of tolerating and sustaining an unlawful administration in occupied Western Tigray.
Salsay Weyane Tigray denounces what it describes as the federal government’s declaration of being ‘100 percent ready’ to act, arguing that these claims lack substance and have translated into no tangible action on the ground. The statement further asserts that such rhetoric serves merely as a tool of political manipulation, with the government relegating its role as if it were peripheral.
Rather than responding to the IDPs’ calls for return and addressing the urgent need to restore Tigray’s constitutional integrity, the federal government, according to the party’s statement, treats these legitimate demands as threats to peace. The party views this approach as a deliberate act of conspiracy aimed at evading responsibility.
The opposition party believes that this is a critical moment for the people of Tigray to collectively intensify pressure on the concerned bodies to ensure the immediate return of IDPs and refugees who continue to endure severe hardships before the rainy season starts in full force.
