Mekelle, Tigray – President Getachew Reda has identified the slow implementation of the Pretoria Agreement as the primary source of many persistent challenges. He made this statement during a meeting with ambassadors and senior representatives from the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy in Mekelle today.
“We have not made significant progress,” President Getachew said, calling for urgent action to address the delays in fulfilling the agreement’s terms.
UK Ambassador to Ethiopia, Darren Welch, echoed the need for swift implementation, stressing that the Pretoria cessation of hostilities agreement must be “owned and delivered” by all stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and stability.
The international delegation, welcomed by President Getachew upon their arrival at Alula Abanega International Airport, is set to visit internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Mekelle, meet with TPLF Chairman Debretsion Gebremichael, and engage with civil society organizations in Tigray.
