Mekelle, October 28, 2024, (Tigray Mass Media Agency)-Tigrai Communication Affairs Bureau has issued a statement condemning the recent spread of misinformation by Assena TV, a UK based television station. While recognizing Assena TV’s unwavering support for the people of #Tigray during the challenging times of struggle against injustice and oppression, the bureau however criticized the station for sharing what it described as “baseless information” that could potentially incite destabilization and foster distrust among the population.
The statement specifically condemned a misinformation spread by Assena TV on October 27, 2024, regarding the issuance of arrest warrants for former leaders of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, labeling it as “an absolute lie.” In the statement the bureau wishes to clarify that this dissemination is part of the misinformation being aired on the television station lately.
The communication bureau warned that such misinformation could derail the ongoing efforts for peaceful political resolution in Tigray and escalate internal tensions obstructing the path to normalcy. The bureau emphasized on the need for vigilance, stating, “While repeated misinformation may deceive some, it cannot alter the reality.”
The bureau concluded its statement by urging the people within and outside Tigray for collective condemnation against all the media outlets that propagate false information and combat its spread for its role in threatening the stability and fostering suspicion among the population in Tigray.
