The Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau has strongly condemned the Amhara Regional Government and the Amhara Broadcasting Corporation for falsely claiming Humera, a city constitutionally recognized as part of Western Tigray, as belonging to the Amhara Region. The report occurred during an April 16, 2025, broadcast on the station titled “The Generation of Tekeze Must Demonstrate Its Guardianship to Tekeze in Practice.”
The Bureau denounced the report as a deliberate violation of constitutional principles and an attempt to advance such narratives that could destabilize the region and undermine the Pretoria peace process. It warned that such actions threaten to escalate tensions between the two regions.
This incident, the Bureau noted, is not isolated but part of a recurring pattern aimed at annexing Tigrayan territories in violation of legal and political agreements. It accused the Amhara Regional Government and the State Media of persistently spreading hate speech, incitement to violence, and misinformation, which risks damaging relations and fueling conflict.
The Bureau called on the federal government and relevant institutions to take immediate legal action against those responsible for these unconstitutional acts and to prevent further provocations. It urged all parties to adhere to the rule of law and uphold the Pretoria Agreement to ensure lasting peace.
