The President of the Tigray Interim Administration, Lt. Gen. Tadesse Woreda, affirmed today that the return of displaced people living under difficult conditions remains his administration’s top priority.
His remarks came during a meeting in Mekelle with Maj. Gen. Samad Aksode, the newly appointed Chief of the Pretoria Agreement Monitoring, Verification, and Compliance Mechanism (MVCM). The two officials held discussions on the ongoing implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement, the replacement of IDPs, and the progress of the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process.
Lt. Gen. Tadesse underscored Tigray’s commitment to working collaboratively with the federal government to ensure the full implementation of the peace deal. Responding to growing concerns about the possibility of renewed conflict, he made it clear that Tigray will not align with any group seeking war. Instead, he emphasized the region’s continued focus on peacebuilding, recovery, and reconstruction.
The president also called on the international community — particularly the African Union and stakeholders in the Pretoria Agreement — to scale up their support for the peace process and ensure its complete and timely enforcement.
