Mekelle April, 30 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency)-Tigray’s Interim Administration President, Let. Gen. Taddesse Werede met with Director of the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) Program at the United Nations Development Program(UNDP) Ethiopia, Basil Massey to discuss the progress of DDR as part of the implementation of Pretoria Peace Agreement.
During the meeting, the President indicated the temporary suspension of the DDR process was due to technical challenges. However, he affirmed that renewed efforts are underway to revitalize and intensify the process, emphasizing on the substantial benefits it holds.
The president stressed on the need to take the DDR process hand in hand with the restoration of Tigray’s territorial integrity and the return of displaced populations currently facing severe hardships. He further underlined the importance of full and unimpeded implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement for securing lasting peace and delivering mutual benefits for both Tigray and Ethiopia as a whole.
The Director of DDR at UNDP Ethiopia expressed appreciation for the ongoing DDR efforts and stressed on the need to sustain and build on this momentum. He pledged to strengthen resource mobilization through coordination with federal government and international donor partners to support the continuation of the program.
