Mekelle, April 23, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) President of the Interim Administration in Tigray,  Lt. Gen. Tadesse Worede met with Paul Handley, Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Ethiopia, today to discuss the provision of humanitarian assistance and the return of displaced persons.

According to a statement released via the official Facebook page of the Office of the President-Tigray, the President reaffirmed the return of displaced persons sheltering within Tigray and in Sudan as a top priority for the Interim Administration and the Federal Government. He urged international organizations like UNOCHA to deliver sustainable support that enables IDPs to rebuild their lives.

Head of UNOCHA Ethiopia, Paul Handley, on his part expressed deep concern over the worsening condition of displaced populations across Tigray and in Sudan, stating that Tigray remains a key focus for humanitarian efforts. The head noted that their presence in Tigray is to discuss the means for improving the humanitarian response and support for rehabilitation of the displaced communities when they return home.

The Head demanded Tigray to remain a top priority for aid distribution although UNOCHA’s $1 billion allocation for Ethiopia this year is over $800 million less than last year.
