Mekelle, October 6, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) – Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau has strongly criticized Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture for a Facebook post that misrepresented Western Tigray as part of the Amhara Region, calling it a “deliberate and dangerous political distortion.”
In the statement, the Bureau indicates that Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture October 3, 2025 post titled “Preparation for Harvesting is Being Carried Out” wrongly identified Western Tigray, constitutionally part of Tigray, as the “Wolkayt Tsegede Humera Zone” under the Amhara Region.
According to the Bureau, this is not an ordinary reporting error but a “systematic and institutionalized attempt” to alter Tigray’s constitutional boundaries. The Bureau describes the move as part of a continued conspiracy to exclude Tigray from the constitutional order of Ethiopia and to legitimize the illegal occupation of its territories.
The statement adds that the repeated actions by federal and regional institutions reflect “deep-rooted injustice” and show that governmental structures are neither impartial nor equally representative of all citizens in Ethiopia.
Calling the post a “serious mistake” from one of the country’s highest institutions, the Bureau warns that using official media platforms to spread such misinformation is aimed at further entrenching territorial distortion.
The Bureau urges the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture to correct the report immediately, hold accountable those responsible for the release, and refrain from actions that disregard Tigray’s constitutional boundaries.
The statement calls on the federal government to take concrete measures against those responsible and to uphold Ethiopian Constitution and the Pretoria Peace Agreement in handling issues related to Tigray.
