December 23, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) Kahsey Abrhaley was born at Adi Mohammeday IDP camp in North Western Tigray to a 21-year-old displaced mother. She was never breastfed.
Her mother, Haregu G/Michael, died shortly after giving birth. After five years of displacement, hunger, and lack of medical care, her body could not survive childbirth without food or medical assistance.

Today, two-month-old Kahsry is growing up without her mother and without the care that could keep her alive. The same hunger and lack of treatment that claimed her mother’s life now threaten Kahsey’s survival.
Kahsey’s story is not isolated. It represents countless children in IDP camps facing severe shortages of food and medicine.

Coordinator of Adi Mohammeday IDP camp, Berhane Amare reveals that the humanitarian situation has steadily deteriorated since 2022. He reports that at least 15 mothers have died during childbirth due to the absence of adequate food and medical services. He further states that 128 children have also died during the same period as a result of severe shortages of nutrition and essential medical care at the camp.
Without urgent humanitarian assistance, more mothers and children will continue to die from preventable causes.
