Ashenda Awris festival is being celebrated in its original birthplace, Abyi Adi of Central Tigray with messages of hope, resilience, and renewed calls for lasting peace in Tigray. Authorities from Interim Administration in Tigray and officials from the federal government are attending the celebration in Abi Adi.
Head of Culture and Tourism Bureau in Tigray, Atsbeha Gebregzabher (PhD) welcomed guests and highlighted the authenticity of Ashenda Awres tradition. He noted that despite displacement, destroyed homes, and scattered families, the people of Tigray continue to uphold their culture. He praised Ashenda girls for hosting the celebration with resilience, even as they carry the wounds of past suffering.
President of the Interim Adminstration, Lt. General Tadesse Werede commended the unique way Ashenda is celebrated in Abi Adi, noting its potential to attract both domestic and international tourism. He reflected on the atrocities endured by the people of Tigray and emphasized the need for a sustainable and peaceful life, free from the cycles of war.
As songs, dances, and traditional attire fill the streets of Abi Adi, Ashenda Awris festival stands as a living testimony to Tigray’s resilience—honoring heritage while voicing a collective call for peace and the full realization of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
