Mekelle, September 24, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) Following the death of Naod Haile Silase, a child who was killed by a hyena on September 23,2025 at Mekelle Seba Kare IDPs’ camp, Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau has issued a statement of condolence today.

In its statement, the bureau expresses deep sorrow over the incident, stressing that the tragedy underscores the dire conditions facing internally displaced people in Tigray. The Bureau notes that the ongoing hardship, rooted in the failure to fully implement the Pretoria Agreement exacerbated by hunger, disease, heavy rains, and extreme heat, continues to endanger lives.

The bureau indicates that the child’s death reveals the worsening and life-threatening circumstances confronting war-displaced communities, who have shown remarkable patience despite their prolonged suffering.

Reiterating its call for swift action, the bureau urges all parties to fully respect and implement the Pretoria Agreement, accelerate the return of displaced people to their home areas, and restore Tigray’s sovereign territory. The Bureau calls the international community and all relevant actors to pressure the negotiators in the agreement to fulfill their commitments without delay.
