Mekelle, August 22, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency)– Ashenda festival is being celebrated with color and joy in Naloni Stadium, Mekelle today, bringing together young women and girls from across the region to showcase Tigrayan culture through song and dance. The event draws high-level participation, including authorities from Interim Adminstration in Tigray and federal government such as Dr. Arogoge Tesfaye, Minister of Women, Children, and Youth Affairs, and invited guests representing nations and nationalities from several regions of Ethiopia.
Mayor of Mekelle, Redai Berhe welcomed the celebrants, officials, and guests, emphasizing Ashenda’s role in promoting cultural pride, unity, and resilience.
During the celebration, Head of Culture and Tourism Bureau in Tigray, Atsebha Gebregzaher (PhD) addressed the gathering, acknowledging the internally displaced persons (IDPs) still celebrating Ashenda from camps. He called on Dr. Arogoge Tesfaye, in her role as federal Minister, to take responsibility for ensuring justice for women who have suffered immensely during the war on Tigray. “It is the duty of your office to prioritize the protection and rights of these women and bring lasting justice,” he stated.
President of the IRA Lt. General Taddesse Werede also welcomed the officials, celebrants, and guests. He urged all responsible authorities in the federal government to work diligently to facilitate the safe and dignified return of IDPs to their homes.
The celebration, filled with traditional songs, dances, and cultural displays, continues to be celebrated with resilience and the enduring spirit of hope and unity.
