Mekelle, October 10, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency)-Tigray Bureau of Communication Affairs has issued statement condemning the continued constitutional violations and misrepresentations of Western Tigray by Amhara Regional Government and Amhara Media Corporation.
According to the Bureau, the Amhara Media Corporation, in a televised broadcast on October 9, 2025, identified Western Tigray, which is constitutionally recognized part of Tigray, as belonging to Amhara Region under the name “Welkait Tegede Setit Humera Zone.”
The Bureau denounces the report as a deliberate distortion intended to confuse the public and incite hostility against forcibly displaced residents of Western Tigray. The statement emphasizes that the return of internally displaced persons must strictly follow the terms of the Pretoria Peace Agreement, which clearly stipulates the restoration of constitutional order and the return of displaced people without compromise.
“The issue of IDP return is clear and must be implemented in full accordance with the Pretoria Agreement,” the statement reads. “Those responsible for spreading false and inflammatory narratives must be held accountable.”
The Bureau urges the Amhara Media Corporation to immediately retract what it calls “irresponsible and unlawful” broadcast and to desist from actions that undermine EthiopianConstitution and the Pretoria Peace Agreement. The bureau calls on the Federal Government to take appropriate measures against individuals and institutions engaged in such violations, reaffirming the need to uphold national laws and peace commitments.
