Mekelle, September 12, 2025 (Tigray Mass Media Agency)– Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau has issued a statement that slams a recent news report about Internally Displaced Persons aired on the YouTube channel of The Reporter, (also known as The Ethiopian Reporter) a private newspaper based in Addis Ababa. The Bureau describes the newsreport as “a white lie and filled with political conspiracy.”
According to the statement, the report aggravates the suffering of those displaced from Western Tigray amid atrocities and killings, by falsely portraying the natural identity and historical territory of Humera as being handed over to others. The Bureau criticizes the channel for misrepresenting the scale and origin of displacement, suggesting millions of IDPs in Tigray are from Amhara and presenting Humera as part of Amhara region.
The Bureau emphasizes that this is not a simple case of misinformation. “This report deliberately undermines the constitutional territory of Tigray, denies the natural identity and rights of war-displaced victims, and fuels tensions between the two people,” the statement reads.
The statement further cautions against what it called dangerous and false narrative of framing the war on Tigray as a so-called “Northern War.” It indicates that this narrative is deliberately fabricated to minimize the scale of atrocities and injustices committed against the people of Tigray.
The Bureau calls for the immediate retraction of the report and corrective measures to be taken against those responsible for producing the news report.
