September 11, 2023 Mekelle (Tigrai Television) In a press statement released on the occasion of Ethiopian New Year’s eve, September 10 2023, Assimba Democratic Party (ADP) an opposition party based in #Tigrai, denounces the Federal government for its “negligence in implementing the Pretoria Peace Agreement” ten months to the signing.

ADP opened the statement by recalling the social, economic, and psychological damage what they call “the genocidal war” has inflicted against the people of Tigrai for almost three years.

The party calls for the Federal government to immediately clear the territories of Tigrai from “the invading Eritrean and Amhara forces” and facilitate the return of the IDPs to their homes.

In the statement, ADP slams the Pretoria peace deal for what they believe “lacks transparency and planning in implementation.” The statement blames the negotiating bodies for failing to monitor the implementation process which is “costing the people of Tigrai dearly.”

Hence, ADP states federal government’s failure to execute major responsibilities that should have been urgently addressed in accordance with the Pretoria Peace Agreement.

With regard to external forces, ADP calls for an immediate withdrawal of the “invading Eritrean and Amhara forces” so that “millions of displaced people sheltering in major cities of Tigrai and Sudan” can return to their home.

In relation to humanitarian aid, ADP urges the humanitarian aid agencies to resume delivering humanitarian assistance so that several people can be saved from dying of starvation.

In their statement, ADP reiterates the denial of civil servants’ one year and five months’ salary, and yet ADP calls for the concerned bodies to pay the civil servants’ unpaid salary.

The party points out the shortcomings of assuring justice and accountability as part of the peace process and urges for the concerned bodies to work on bringing perpetrators to justice.
