On a Press Conference on Tuesday, Opposition Assimba Democratic Party condemns the decision made by UN aid agencies to halt food aid delivery to the people in Tigrai calling it “inconsiderate”.

Awet Aregawi, Head of Political Affairs to the party called on the aid agencies to reconsider their decision and address the humanitarian disaster in the region.

On May 3, WFP and USAID, the two major aid providers to Ethiopia announced their decision to pause humanitarian operations in Tigrai pending to internal investigation into the suspected ‘food diversion’.

Speaking about the peace deal, Assimba Democratic Party regards the partial resumption of basic services in Tigrai as a progress. The party, however, said some parts of Tigrai are still under communication blackout.

Aregawi called on the federal government to facilitate the complete resumption of basic services in the entire region.

He also called upon the government to prioritize the returning of IDPs to their homelands by withdrawing foreign Eritrean forces and Amhara regional forces from areas they occupy, keeping the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.
