The Global Society of #Tigray Scholars and Professionals (GSTS) expresses deep concern over recent remarks made by Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, which they believe to be fueling hostility and exacerbating tensions.

In a strongly worded statement released today, #GSTS condemned the Deputy Prime Minister’s statements, stating that they undermine efforts towards peace and reconciliation in Ethiopia, particularly in Tigray.

The statement emphasized the dangerous precedent set by such rhetoric threatens the constitutional order and stability of the country.

“The recent statements by Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh are alarming and dangerous. They risk escalating tensions and reversing the progress made towards peace in Ethiopia,” the statement read.

GSTS highlighted the urgent need for all parties to abide by the principles of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) signed in Pretoria and to refrain from actions or statements that could escalate the situation further. The statement urged all parties to prioritize dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The statement called upon Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh to reconsider his stance and commit to promoting dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

“We call upon Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh to acknowledge the gravity of his remarks and work towards deescalating tensions in Ethiopia,” the statement concluded.
