Mekelle, Jun 21 (Tigrai Television)- United States has urged Eritrea to immediately withdraw all of its troops from northern Ethiopia and cease attacking civilians. United States said this as UNHRC Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Situations on Eritrea, Mohamed Abdelsalam Babiker deliver his report at the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council.
The US emphasized that the atrocity crimes committed by members of the Eritrean forces during the conflict in northern Ethiopia, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, are of grave concern. The US has also stressed on the need to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
The US strongly denounces Eritrea’s indefinite national service system and the recruitment and use of child soldiers. It also strictly condemns Eritrea’s treatment of its citizens, including acts of torture, arbitrary detention, and other forms of abuse.
The U.S. says it is alarmed by recent reports of Eritrea forcibly repatriating Eritrean refugees from Sudan and has called on the Eritrean government to introduce national reforms to end these unlawful practices.
