Mekelle, June 23, 2023 (Tigrai Television)- Residents in Irob district, Eastern Tigrai, say they are facing serious socio-economic crisis due to the presence of Eritrean forces in contrary to the Pretoria agreement.
A resident in Agerelekoma, now residing in Haraza vicinity, Irob district, Fissuhe Mezegebu said they don’t have access to the road that takes them home due to the presence of Eritrean forces. He says “Eritrean forces are dwelling in our home, so we can’t go back.” He added the residents are displaced, and they are currently sheltering under a harsh jungle near Assimba.
Another resident in Endamossa vicinity, Irob district, Haleka Gebretsadik Abraha said Eritrean forces destroyed their property, and looted what is left of it. He says he witnessed Eritrean forces looting cattle, and burning houses with heavy artillery attack and intentionally burning houses using match stick during the active fight.
A woman resident in Endamossa, Irob district, Genet Kahsay said people displaced from their homes are begging for food and cloth donation. She added Eritrean troops forced them to flee to caves and valleys for shelter.
The residents expressed their grave concern on the challenges they may face to rebuild the houses destructed during the war as the rainy season is approaching. Another resident urges the concerned bodies to stress on returning the residents to their homes.
“We need to return to our home, and start our casual life like the old good days,” underscored the Man.
