Mekelle- Dec. 18, 2022 – President Debretsion Gebremichael says Ethiopian forces have not disengaged from battle frontlines 45 five days into the peace deal.

Briefing Tigrai State Council regarding the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Deal earlier today, the President says his government is and will continue to commit itself to the full implementation of the agreement.

The President also says Eritrean forces and Amhara forces committing heinous crimes on the people of Tigrai and calls on the Ethiopian government to withdraw these forces as per the agreement. “Eritrean forces and forces from Amhara continue to commit heinous crimes and to loot properties. The rights of our people remain violated, IDPs are yet to return to their homes” he added.

President Debretsion noted that the AU Monitoring team has not arrived in Tigrai and that their arrival is still much-expected for the smooth implementation of the peace deal.

Speaking about humanitarian aid, the President says more than 76,000 metric tons of food items were able to reach Tigrai while stressing the need to increase the delivery of humanitarian assistance so as to feed over 6.5 million people in need.
