The Global Society of Tigrian Scholars and Professionals condemns African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mohamet’s statement as “misleading and irresponsible.”

In a statement issued on Saturday, the society blamed the chairperson for focusing on self-congratulation than actual security threats that engulfed Tigray and Ethiopia as whole.

GSTS said the statement from Moussa Faki Mohamat on Nov 2, 2023 ignores serious failures in the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement including the ongoing large-scale atrocities committed by Eritreans against Tigray residents in illegally occupied territories, and the failure of the federal government to facilitate the dignified and voluntary return of millions of internally displaced people and tens of thousands of Tigray refugees in Sudan to their homes and property, as well as the failure of the African Union to effectively implement its monitoring, verification and compliance mission in the Tigray region.

GSTS called the African Union Commission to learn from past mistakes recalling AUC’s public support for Ethiopian government during the onset of the war.

On Thursday, AU commission Chairperson issued a statement commending all Ethiopians for “embracing peace, national dialogue, and reconciliation.”
