Mekelle, August 14, 2023(Tigrai Television)- Tigrai IRA President Getachew Reda calls on the federal government and the international community to support fight against new wave of locust infestation.
“Tigray is facing possibly the worst desert locust invasion in recent memory. The Tigray Interim Administration calls on the people of Tigray, friends, the federal government & the international community to do all they can to help us rise up to a challenge of colossal proportions.” wrote on Twitter late on Sunday.
Earlier that day, Getachew appeared on media to announce the establishment of new taskforce that he said will be engaged in mobilizing resources and the participation of the entire population to reverse the dangers posed by the locust swarm.
President Getachew stated that the locust swarm has invaded almost all districts in Eastern zone of Tigrai since July 29. He also said the infestation invaded Southeastern and Southern Tigrai on August 5 and 12 respectively.
