Nov 03, 2023 Mekelle (Tigrai-Television)Antony J. Blinken, United States Secretary of State urged for a full withdrawal of Eritrean forces from Tigrai in a press statement issued on the occasion of 1st Anniversary of Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.
The statement expressed how the agreement facilitated by several actors brought an end to a two-year war. “The Agreement silenced the guns and ended a horrific two-year war that killed hundreds of thousands and forced millions to flee their homes,” reminded the statement. Secretary Blinken expressed the United States’ commitment to peace and justice for all Ethiopians.
While the statement touted the key achievements of the peace agreement, the State Secretary emphasized the existance of further challenges on the full implementation of the peace accord and more actions are needed to ensure lasting peace and stability in Tigray, including the full withdrawal of External forces. “Eritrean forces must fully withdraw,” underscored the statement.
Looking forward, the United States pledged support for concrete actions to advance implementation of the COHA .
The State Secretary encouraged the publication and implementation of a credible, inclusive, and victim-centered national transitional justice.
It is to be recalled the State Secretary reiterated for the withdrawal of Eritrean forces from Tigrai on multiple occasions beginning from the onset of the war.
