Ethiopian government and the United States Agency for International Development(USAID) say they will work together to hold culprits of food diversion in Ethiopia accountable.
In a joint statement released this afternoon, Ethiopia Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the USAID announced their “commitment to addressing deeply concerning revelation of food aid diversion in Ethiopia.”
Earlier today, USAID announced the suspension of its operations across Ethiopia until it can be sure aid “will be delivered based on humanitarian principles of humanity, independence, impartiality, and neutrality to ensure that the aid is meeting the needs of people it is meant to reach.”
On May 4, USAID issued a statement calling a quit to humanitarian operations in Tigrai amid suspension of aid, triggering the biggest humanitarian donor in Ethiopia to undergo “extensive monitoring” process which has verified the diversion of aid in seven regions across Ethiopia.
