Flash Flood hit Hitsats IDP camp in the district of Asgede, Northwestern Tigrai on Friday causing the death of one and the injury of 13 others.
According to our reporter Meles Abadi, the flood, which was preceded by heavy rain and storms, ripped the tents where the IDPs shelter.
The IDPs camp, formerly a refugee camp for Eritrean refugees, was destroyed by Eritrean forces when they occupy the area along with Ethiopian forces in the course of the war.
The IDPs call for immediate attention from all concerned bodies as the flood destroyed the very few properties they had. They also call on the Tigrai Interim Regional Administration to facilitate the fast return to their homes in Western Tigrai.
The IDPs left for Dedebit from Western Tigrai in the early days of the war on Tigrai escaping a massive ethnic cleansing campaign by Amhara Regional Forces and Fano Vigilante group.
The IDPs flee to Asgede in January of 2022 escaping a drone attack on an IDP Camp in Dedebit, Northwestern Tigrai.
The drone attack in Dedebit, one of the gruesome atrocities that killed at least 59 innocent civilians, was recorded in a report by the International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia in September of 2023.
